You may have noticed that the spelling of Pusan/Busan changes throughout the book. This is due to a new method of transliterating Korean which was introduced in 2000 and the name changed overnight from Pusan to Busan, though the Korean character ㅂrepresents both ‘p’ and ‘b’. Hence, where the story takes place during the Korean War in the nineteen fifties, I refer to the city as Pusan and in the later references as ‘Busan’.
