“Dearest Mother,
I thank you and dad for the lovely telegram. The most important thing I have to tell you is that I was confirmed yesterday by Cardinal O’conell. I served and received Holy Communion at seven o’clock mass, then I came home and had breakfast, changed my clothes and was back at the hall at nine. About ten o’clock we started for the church in a prosession. Confirmation was a ten thirty prompt. Eddy, Mrs. Moore, Rose, and Ennice Aunt Loretta, grandpa and grandma Fitzgerald and Aunt Agnes were there. Grandpa Kennedy had to go to a funeral (Dr. Gibline) The church was pretty well crowded.
The services were over at quarter past eleven and then we had our picture taken. Then I went home and changed my clothes and went out to Billy Butler’s.
I thank you very much for the prayer book you gave me. Grandpa Kennedy gave me a five dollar gold piece and Aunt Agnes and grandma gave me some rosary beads, Grandpa Fitzgearld gave me a signet ring. I went out to Billy Butlers who was having a party and then went with him to the movies.
The weather has been rainy and chilly every day since you left. Kathleen is going to receive her first communion next Sunday. I hope you are feeling well every body around here is feeling good. I will have to close now with best love to you and daddy
Your Loving Son,
Joe ”
