“I remember every Sunday afternoon, after lunch, Mother and Daddy would go down the long driveway together and way up Pondfield Road around that whole area, which has a lot of hills and byways. Sometimes a couple of us would start out trailing behind them, but they walked so fast or so long, we’d get tired and go back home. We weren’t included, they weren’t talking with us, they were talking to each other. And they walked: Those Sunday afternoon walks were their walks. It indicates something about their relationship. They were interested in each other, they enjoyed each other, they wanted to talk with each other.”
