I put on khakis with no stain

My mother has slipped new clothes into my closet

the same size and brand as what I was wearing

before, the tags still on and no grease

spot by the knee. You’re supposed to wash

new clothes before you wear them,

but I slip them on and stare down

at the smooth clean fabric, surprised

by the way the spotlessness

makes me feel

new too.
