GERTRUDE HIMMELFARB
THE ROADS TO MODERNITY
Gertrude Himmelfarb has taught at the Graduate School of the City University of New York, where she was named Distinguished Professor of History in 1978 and is now Professor Emeritus. In 1991, she was named the Jefferson Lecturer in the Humanities, the highest honor bestowed by the United States for distinguished achievement in the humanities. For her contributions to the humanities, she was awarded the 2004 National Humanities Medal. She lives with her husband, Irving Kristol, in Washington, D.C.
