Corporations use mission statements to define their goals and values for the customer, and nonprofits use them to define their purpose for donors. For an individual project, it really helps to have a statement or mantra in your head, on a napkin, or as a poster on the wall to keep you focused. It can be simple. For example, if you are designing a book about tomatoes, your statement might be, “I would like the book to feel warm, like a summer day.”
