On Monday morning, Thomas’s stepmom, school board member Abby Payne, came to see Emily at school. “Just wanted to say thank you for what you did this spring, with the girls. Also wanted to let you know that the school board has every intention of having a softball team next year, and for years to come. Of course, there’s no pressure, but if you’re willing to coach again, the job is yours. And we’ll even pay you this time.”
“Thank you,” Emily said. “Can we also get new uniforms? The girls hate pinstripes.”
