Day 22

It was time to put our plan into action. First, Officers Zimmer and Tenpen exited the Town Hall and headed to the left side. The Dragon stayed in place just watching the movement.

“What now?” Officer Tenpen asked.

“Keep going!” Johansson shouted. “You and Peter are up now, Calvin!”

“Okay, got it!” Peter and I exited the Town Hall. We went to the right. The Dragon didn’t move. Johansson just kept watching him from the Town Hall’s entrance.

“Hey! Over here!” Officer Zimmer tried to attract the Dragon towards him. The Dragon did look at him, but didn’t move.

“Hey, Dragon, come over here! What are you waiting for?” I started frantically waving my arms in the air. The Dragon seemed uninterested in us, for some reason.

“What’s happening? Why isn’t he reacting?” I asked.

“I don’t know. He has been way too calm,” Peter said. “I mean, I’ve never met a dragon before, but one would expect them to be dangerous and extremely volatile.”

“We must keep trying!” I picked some small rocks from the ground and threw them at the Station.

“Over here, Dragon! Come after us!” I shouted.

Eventually, my efforts brought results. The Dragon got up from his spot and stretched his wings. Then, the creature flew over Main Square and started chasing us.

“Run, Peter! Run to the houses!” I screamed.

Peter and I ran to the nearby houses. The Dragon continued flying in circles above the area, emitting a roar.

“Right! Here we go!” Johansson and Beatriz exited the Town Hall. Johansson grabbed the device from the ground. As soon as he touched the device, the Dragon looked back and roared. He flew towards Johansson at full speed.

“Lookout, Dad!” Beatriz retrieved her sword and hit the Nether Dragon once he approached them. The Nether Dragon let out a cry of pain and flew away for a bit.

“Thanks, honey! That was a beautiful hit!” Johansson said.

“Come on; we must hurry! Take the device to the Red Forest!” Beatriz said.

“Okay!”

The Nether Dragon didn’t care about anything or anyone else. It was attracted to the device built by David Park, and it wanted to attack whoever touched the machine. Johansson had the machine in his hands, and he ran over to the Red Forest. Beatriz went right after him. The Nether Dragon was flying directly above them, following them into the Forest.

“Come now; we must go after them,” I told Peter. “Zimmer, Tenpen, please stay in the city and make sure no one leaves their houses!”

“Roger that, Detective!” Zimmer said.

We ran after the three, eventually catching up to them. Now, the scenario was completely different. The device was on the ground, and both Johansson and Beatriz had their swords in their hands. The Nether Dragon was flying over them.

“Calvin, Peter, stay back! Let us deal with this monster!” Johansson said.

“Okay!” I replied. There wasn’t much Peter and I could do in the moment anyway. There are some things that only a human can handle; defeating a huge Dragon was one of them.

“Watch out, Dad! He’s coming at us!” Beatriz said.

The Nether Dragon dived in midair and flew towards them. It tried to head butt the humans, but they evaded the attack at the last second. Johansson hit the Nether Dragon’s leg with his Netherite Sword.

“Nice one,” Beatriz shouted.

“Thanks! Keep an eye out; he’s coming back!”

The Nether Dragon landed right next to them. It let out a roar and then spit a fireball at Johansson. He jumped to the side, evading the attack. In the meantime, Beatriz went up and slashed the Dragon with her Diamond Sword. The Nether Dragon screamed.

“Nicely done!” Johansson said. “Now, together!” Johansson and Beatriz rushed towards the Dragon and hit it with their Swords. The Dragon swirled and threw them away with its tail. Johansson and Beatriz fell to the ground.

“That thing is strong,” Johansson said, getting up. “Are you okay, honey?”

“Yes, thank you,” she replied. “I feel like this creature is stronger than the Ender Dragon.”

“In a way, it is. We’ve hit it several times, and it hasn’t shown any sign of weakness,” Johansson said.

“Then let’s keep up with the battle!” Beatriz said. The Nether Dragon walked in their direction. Beatriz lifted her Sword in the air, ready to strike the Dragon once more, but the Nether Dragon abruptly bit her Sword and swallowed it.

“Hey! My Diamond Sword!” Beatriz screamed.

“Don’t worry, honey! I’ll retrieve the Sword for you!” Johansson attacked the Nether Dragon with his Netherite Sword. The beast cried out loud, but, instead of backing away, it stood still. Johansson was about to hit it again when the Dragon grabbed his sword with its teeth.

“What?” Johansson shouted.

The Nether Dragon swallowed the Netherite Sword in one gulp. Johansson couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Did it just swallow my sword, too?”

“Oh, gosh… we’re in deep trouble,” Beatriz muttered.

“Don’t worry, honey. I always carry my trusty Crossbow with me!” Johansson got his Crossbow from his inventory. Now, they only had one Crossbow to fight the Nether Dragon.

“I believe that won’t be necessary,” the Nether Dragon said.

Johansson and Beatriz looked at each other. Peter and I couldn’t believe it either. The Dragon talked!

“What the… did you just talk...?” Johansson asked.

“Yes. I recognize your worth. It was a fierce battle, and you two proved your strength to me. I shall talk to you two.” The Nether Dragon spit out both swords onto the ground. Johansson picked up his sword and gave Beatriz hers.

“Okay thanks, I guess,” Johansson said.

“My name is D’vart. What is yours, human?” The Dragon asked.

“I am Johansson Armstrong, and this is Beatriz Armstrong,” he said.

“Nice to meet you.” Beatriz said.

“Armstrong family, huh? I happened to run into a member of your family in the past, but that’s not of any importance right now. I believe we have more important matters to discuss,” D’vart said.

No one could believe what had just happened, but the Nether Dragon wanted to talk to us.
