Day 24

The Nether Dragon D’vart was explaining to our group what we could do to help him and the other Dragons.

“D’vart, what can we do to help you?” Johansson asked him. “I don’t know if we can help but we would like to try.”

“I believe you can help but it’s going to be hard,” D’vart said. “Besides I cannot see what kind of reward you would take from such a risky mission. Putting your lives in danger on behalf of another species is deemed far too dangerous even for me.”

“This is not about working for a reward, D’vart,” Beatriz said. “We, as scientists, have studied the existence of the Ancient Dragons for quite some time now. We had no idea the Nether Dragons still existed. This is an unprecedented discovery for us but we will not rest until we have resolved this issue that was caused by humans in the first place.”

“You are far too kind. If only the other Nether Dragons had run into you back then, 500 years ago. We wouldn’t be in this dire situation today,” D’vart told us.

“We cannot undo the mistakes made by the previous generations but we can try to fix them,” Johansson said. “Nothing is going to be exactly like it was before but we can try.”

“If you really are willing to help then I have no reason to prevent you from doing so,” D’vart said. “The only way to restore the reign of the Nether Dragons is simple yet seemingly impossible. You must bring “The One” back to the Nether.”

“The One?” Beatriz asked.

“Yes, the Original Dragon, D’tort,” D’vart said. “Without him, nothing is possible for us. Without “The One,” our race will be extinguished within the next 20 or 30 years.”

“Wait. Humans kidnapped the Original Dragon and took him to the Overworld, right?” Johansson said.

“Correct.”

“Where is he now? I’m from the Overworld, and I have never seen a Dragon there!”

“The One does not reside in the Overworld today. It resides in The End,” D’vart said.

“Oh, gosh.” Beatriz exclaimed.

“David Park was right once again,” I said. “The Nether Dragon and the Ender Dragon… they are in the same family. They are the same Dragons!”

“Not only that, the Ender Dragon is actually the ‘father’ of all Nether Dragons.” Peter said.

“This is crazy. I wonder how the Ender Dragon went from the Overworld to The End. It’s like crossing three dimensions as a Dragon.” Johansson said.

“The details of his transferal to The End dimension are not clear. We do not know exactly how “The One” ended up in The End. It is a mystery that only he can answer,” D’vart said.

“So, can the Ender Dragon talk?” Beatriz asked.

“He should be able to, yes,” D’vart said.

“The Ender Dragon has never talked to a single human before. In all of its existence, it hasn’t said a word,” Johansson said.

“I believe the Ender Dragon despises the human race as do most of the other Nether Dragons,” D’vart said. “He fulfills his duty as the Ender Dragon and nothing more.”

“But the Ender Dragon is so different from you. He is pitch black, featherless, and has purple eyes. Nether Dragons have feathers, red eyes, and reddish skin,” Beatriz said. “What gives?”

“The Ender Dragon joined the Endermen at some point in his life. That is when he adopted the different visuals. Again, I do not know the details of when or how that happened. Only “The One” can answer those questions,” D’vart said.

“I see. Somehow the Original Dragon from the Nether was kidnapped and brought to the Overworld. Once there he entered The End dimension somehow, and made a pact with the Endermen. Now, he has been living with the Endermen for centuries, and the Nether Dragon will disappear forever if “The One” isn’t brought back to the Nether. Did I miss something?” Johansson asked.

“No. That’s a perfect summary of our situation,” D’vart said.

“In short, we need to bring the Ender Dragon to the Nether where it belongs,” Beatriz said.

“Precisely.”

“How can we do that?” Johansson wondered. “Is it even possible to take the Ender Dragon through that small portal in The End?”

“Honestly, I do not know as I have never been in The End before. There must be a way somehow,” D’vart said.

“Okay, we will figure it out,” Beatriz said.

“Yes. Don’t worry, D’vart. I promise you we’re going to The End, and we will bring the Ender Dragon to the Nether.” Johansson said. “Calvin, Peter, are you coming along?”

“Me?” I said.

“Yes, To The End. I bet you’ve never seen that dimension before, right?” Johansson said.

“No. I don’t even know if I can enter it.” I said.

“That sounds terrifying…” Peter said.

“Don’t worry, bring your Crossbows with you, and you should be fine. The Ender Dragon is actually fairly easy to defeat, once you have the right potions,” Johansson said.

“Remember, though. You cannot defeat the Ender Dragon. If you do defeat it, the Ender Dragon will simply disappear and respawn in The End again. You must weaken it and then bring it back to the Overworld and the Nether,” D’vart said.

“Okay, we understand. Leave it to us, D’vart. You won’t regret it.” Johansson said.

“Thank you for your help. I have never met humans with such generous hearts before. The other Nether Dragons have despised humans and evaded them all these years. However, I knew humans were the only chance we had at recovering our race,” D’vart said.

“You’re welcome, D’vart. It will be an honor to restore the Nether Dragons’ reign,” Beatriz said.

“We’ll go to the Overworld to search for the Stronghold. As for you, can I ask you to stay a bit far from that city down there?” Johansson pointed at Crimson City. “The Piglins there are a bit scared of you. Nothing personal, D’vart.”

“Do not worry. I shall stay far away from all Piglins in this area. When you need me just call my name or use that machine,” D’vart said.

“Are you sure? Just calling your name should be enough?” Peter said.

“Yes,” D’vart replied.

“I think using the machine is easier.” Johansson picked up the device from the ground.

“As you wish,” D’vart said.

I turned the machine off just like David had taught me.

“There it’s off now,” Johansson said.

“I shall be waiting for you, humans. Good luck in your endeavor.” D’vart flew away from us.

“Wow… just wow. We have to take down the Ender Dragon and bring it back to the Nether with us. That’s such a crazy mission.” Johansson said.

“I have no idea how to defeat an Ender Dragon, but if you want our help, I’m all for it,” I said.

“Same here. I’m trying to hide my fear, but I won’t back out,” Peter commented.

“Don’t worry guys. We can do this.” Johansson encouraged us.
