BETTY’S HOT DOG CHILI

To “keep God at the center of your marriage” is some great advice that Grandma BETTY KING (Candler, North Carolina) shared with her granddaughter, MEGAN KING HOOPINGARNER (Murfreesboro, Tennessee). Megan says, “My grandma met and married my grandpa nearly fifty-nine years ago. Since Grandpa was active duty in the army, they traveled together with their two children (my dad and my Aunt Cyndi) all over the U.S. and even overseas in Germany.” Grandma says to this day that “Grandpa is the best thing that’s ever happened to her!” Grandma also introduced Megan to real Southern cooking and baking and always makes everything from scratch.

1 pound ground beef

1 teaspoon salt

1 small onion, chopped

½ cup water

1 teaspoon chili powder

¼ cup ketchup

6 hot dogs, cooked

6 hot dogs buns, split

1 In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, salt, and onion until the meat is browned. Drain off the grease.

2 Add the water and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the chili powder and ketchup and mix well. When heated well through, approximately 5 minutes, it’s ready to serve. Spoon over warm hot dogs in buns.

MAKES 6 SERVINGS.
