GRANNY’S BEAR WIGGLE DELIGHT

AUSTYN CARPENTER (Waxahachie, Texas) shares that his Nana, LINDA LEDFORD PORTER, now lives in Swartz Creek, Michigan, but she was born and raised in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Linda is a mother of four and a grandmother of six. Austyn’s great-grandmother, FRANCES MCKINNEY LEDFORD (also of Spruce Pine), used to make this chocolate delight in the 1950s for her then “seemingly always hungry” six children. Linda says, “Momma would never believe that her ‘Bear Wiggle’ recipe is appearing in a twenty-first-century cookbook!”

3 tablespoons cocoa

1 cup sugar

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 ½ cups crumbled leftover biscuits

1 In a medium saucepan combine the cocoa, sugar, milk, and vanilla. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens.

2 Place the crumbled biscuits evenly into 6 dessert cups. Pour the chocolate over the biscuits and lightly stir. Add your favorite ice cream or whipped topping and enjoy!
