While KENNAH MASON now lives in Franklin, Tennessee, she comes from a strong line of Texan ladies who smile when they say, “Strong Southern women are baked best in the Texas sun.” Kennah was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and considers herself fortunate to have adult relationships with both her grandmother—LINDA TURMAN (Lewisville, Texas), a.k.a. Grammy—and her great-grandmother—BILLIE BUSHONG (also from Lewisville), a.k.a. Honey. Kennah shares, “My Honey and Grammy taught me how to be a strong woman and to rely on my faith in the Lord. I always loved these pickles because Grammy and Honey would bring them to us in Mason jars. Since that’s our last name, it always felt kind of special.”
1 (32 ounce) jar whole dill pickles
2 cups sugar
1 cup cider vinegar
1 Drain the pickles and cut into spears. Return to jar.
2 Mix the sugar and vinegar in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Pour over the pickles to cover. Tightly reattach the lid and place in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Do not reuse the vinegar from the pickles.
