The Abandoned One

A man awoke at dawn

After snow all night

Had hidden the town . . .

Nothing familiar was visible now

And in the world’s white silence

His possessions became worthless

Yet he felt light and elated

Knowing he had nothing

From that day he gave

Himself to everyone

Like an orphan

In Babylon

Until he found his mother

And he knew he was her son

Naming her the Abandoned One
