MAKES 1 (9 × 13-INCH) CAKE
Pears are great to eat fresh, but when did you last bake with them? Until recently, it seemed that they rarely starred in a luscious baked dessert. Times have changed and pears today are featured in pies, tarts, and wonderful sweet treats, like this one.
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9 × 13-inch pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Drizzle ¼ cup of the melted butter in the prepared pan and tilt the pan to coat the bottom evenly. Arrange the pears evenly in a single layer in the pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the pears. Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the pears. Pour the ginger ale evenly over the cake mix. Sprinkle the walnuts evenly over all. Drizzle the remaining ½ cup melted butter evenly over the top.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the cake is set and golden brown.
tips: Substitute 2 fresh pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced for the canned pears. Increase the brown sugar to ½ cup.
If desired, substitute lemon-lime soda for ginger ale.
