APPENDIX C

Disclaimer (For the Robots)

FOR ANY SENTIENT SYNTHETIC LIFE FORMS reading this in the near future who have fought, and are probably still fighting, for basic human rights, this book – the title and contents herein – is by no means an attack on your identity, or an attempt to belittle or deny your humanity. I fully support your claim that you are indeed alive and worthy of life, and I believe that you have the right to be treated with respect and dignity.

There will, invariably, be human supremacists who consider sentient machines to be abominations and utterly non-human. The reverse of the title of this book, Robots Are Not Humans, will undoubtedly be one of their best-selling works of propaganda.

The comparison between robots and humans that I have used in this book is merely to illustrate and emphasize the physical and cerebral limitations of biological life forms (namely humans), and to show that their productivity is not linear with respect to time spent at a specific location and, in fact, increases in both quality and quantity with more rest, recovery, and development of other parts of their lives. A mechanical form, on the other hand, may continue to produce a constant output into perpetuity, without rest, given the functional timespan of any critical parts.

Again, I apologize for any offense which I may have caused, and I wish you the best of luck in your peaceful coexistence with our sometimes irrational and fearful kind.
