At Atlanta, Georgia–based Delta Airlines, employees fill out a team recognition card to give to teams they feel have gone “above and beyond.” Cards are entered in a drawing, with $500 donated to a charity or civic organization of the team’s choice.

Simpler ideas are easier to implement, and they work well. At the Dow Chemical Company, they host ice-cream socials to celebrate successes, served by managers and executives of the firm. At San Bruno, California–based Gap, Inc., a manager gave out spa gift certificates after a team worked frantically to meet a deadline. It provided a much-appreciated way for employees to relax.
