To the Editor:
In the Cornell Daily Sun of Sept. 30, page 3, you report that according to Mr. Richard L. Leed of the Division of Modern Languages, “there is…a slight increase in the number of students taking advanced courses in Russian language and literature.”
I must assume that Mr. Leed’s statement was erroneously reported. I am the only instructor in this University to give courses in Russian literature and I must state that the facts are in direct contradiction to your report. The “advanced courses” offered in alternate years are Russian literature 315–316 and 317–318. They presuppose some knowledge of the Russian language. This is the second year in succession that neither of these courses could be given for lack of qualified applicants.
