Glögg

This spicy Scandinavian brew is sure to bring holiday cheer.

MAKES 10 TO 12 DRINKS

32 oz [960 ml] red wine

32 oz [960 ml] aquavit

Peel of 1 orange

4 cloves

2 cardamom pods

8 sugar cubes

Blanched whole almonds, for garnish

Raisins, for garnish

Place the red wine and aquavit in separate saucepans and warm each over medium heat. Place the orange peel, cloves, and cardamom pods in the red wine, bring to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes. Strain. Place the sugar cubes in a heated punch bowl, then add the strained heated wine and the aquavit. To serve, heat mugs. Place several almonds and raisins in each mug, then fill with the glögg and serve.
