Man found guilty of murdering his wife and violently assaulting his son
A man who beat his wife to death and left his son in a critical condition in their North Yorkshire home has been convicted of murder and grievous bodily harm.
Matthew Biss, 42, beat Jennifer Biss née Clements, 35, to death with a golf club just before 9 p.m. on 7 May. He beat his seventeen-year-old son, Karl Biss, to unconsciousness.
Neighbours reported hearing a loud altercation between the couple earlier in the evening. The police were called after shouts and screams were heard at around 8 p.m. Matthew Biss was apprehended at the scene.
Paramedics arrived just after 9 p.m. Jennifer Biss was pronounced dead at the scene but Karl Biss was taken to hospital, where he recovered from his injuries. After regaining consciousness, he was able to positively identify his father as both his and his mother’s attacker.
Matthew Biss refused to cooperate with police and pleaded not guilty. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
