Subject: Operation Chalice – Press release
Maddy,
Please put out the following urgent appeal for more information. We’re moving towards shelving this case, but one more plea for information won’t hurt.
Juliet
Detectives are appealing again for more witnesses and information about the murder of a young woman on the Dunlow Estate in the New Forest.
The victim, Melanie Pirt, was shot dead on the Dunlow Estate on the night of 9 October.
Police have recovered the body of a dog involved in the attack and other key pieces of evidence. However, the murder weapon has not been recovered. It is believed to be a hunting rifle.
Two men were arrested in conjunction with this enquiry but have been released without charge.
Detectives are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Juliet Stern said: ‘We are anxious to trace any potential witnesses as soon as possible so they can help us to piece together what happened. If you know anything, please contact us.’
