I let her imagine

    that I do not have

    an inkwell

    made of eggshell

    given to me

    by her own son

    along with a quill

    for writing secrets

    so that when we’ve heard the verses

    of some improvisational poet

    at an elegant party

    in the house of a nobleman

    I can take home the rhymes

    I remember

    and change the words to new ones

    making all words

    my own
