Every day I am inspired by the colours I see outdoors. Living at the ocean it never ceases to amaze me how the colour of the sea changes from clear blue and blue-green to turquoise and indigo. The same can be said for the ever-changing blues of the African sky. When I think of colour, I think of this, as well as the magnificent colours of the Namaqualand veld in full bloom, the grounding and soulful colours of the Bushveld, the sense of happiness I feel when the first buds of spring come into bloom and the first rains bring life to the garden, turning everything from grey and brown to green. Happiness and life – that is what colour means to me.

It is well known that colour has an effect on us, and in order to live a healthy, balanced life, we need to include colour in our lives. The uplifting qualities of a yellow sun, the relaxing and inspiring colours of a blue sky, the balancing and stress-relieving colours of a green garden, the passion and beauty of an orange-red sunset are just some of the reasons why we tend to feel our best when we are close to nature.
