This book is an attempt to fully articulate ideas developed in my 2015 dissertation. For this reason, and seven years later, the person principally responsible for the full development of the Afro-Frontier thesis is Marissa Renee Roybal. After graduation, I was hoping to forget about Blackdom and move on. However, I couldn’t find a job or a project worth the time and energy spent. When Marissa Roybal summoned her entrepreneurial spirit, Blackdom Townsite Company had life once more and the Afro-Frontier thesis had a rebirth in September 2019. Marissa cultivated an institution from a dissertation and an idea to produce this refined study of Blackdom, New Mexico. Brilliant.
