“. . . Practice hospitality.”

ROMANS 12:13

Southern hospitality: it’s what we are known for; it has no season. My grandpa Larry spent a lot of time sitting on his front porch in the white wicker rocker. “Sit down awhile. I’ll put a pot of coffee on or make some tea. Do you want something to eat? A cookie, piece of cake, or even a hot biscuit?” This is what my grandpa Larry was known for, how people remember him. He was carrying on the family tradition that Great-Grandma Strahan was famous for. She invited everyone she met to her house and offered whatever she had on hand. She did not stand on ceremony. It didn’t have to be a special occasion or event. Enjoy entertaining, and make hospitality a practice in your home. The Mississippi Cheese Board is always a crowd-pleasing appetizer, whether for family or friends. Try your own variations on the Spicy Pimento Cheese, Southern “Fried” Pecans, and Pecan “Biscuit” Crackers. With a pantry full of basic ingredients and a little creativity, you’re always ready for guests.
