About the Author

André-François Bourbeau was born in Quebec’s Eastern Townships but was raised in Northern Ontario. After completing two bachelor degrees at the University of Toronto, he pursued post-graduate work at the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a Masters of Arts in Outdoor Education and a Doctorate degree in Wilderness Survival Education. He spent his career as professor of outdoor pursuits at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi, where he founded Quebec’s only research laboratory that studies wilderness survival, outdoor risk management and emergency response, therapeutic adventure, and expedition logistics. He has spoken at hundreds of conferences and authored numerous works in French, his most recent book being a treatise of his wilderness survival research results.
