Key Celestial Authors of the UB

Unlike A Course in Miracles and other such channeled books, the Urantia Revelation is said to be the product of a large and diverse corps of celestial authors. In this brief section I mention a selection of the celestial beings who were either sponsors or coauthors of the Urantia Papers.

At the top of the angelology scale of the UB we meet beings of direct origin from the Paradise Trinity known as the Ancients of Days, who preside over our own galaxy supercluster, Orvonton. Recall that Orvonton is one of the seven great inhabited superuniverses—as explained in chapter 2 and elsewhere. The Ancients of Days (and others they authorized) organized a wide array of celestial beings to be authors of specific Papers in the Urantia text, we are told. These beings are called ancient because they are the very oldest in the evolving universes, and there are just twenty-one of them; every superuniverse has a governing trio of Ancients of Days who serve as administrators.

The Ancients of Days who oversee our own superuniverse directly sponsored Part I of the UB’s presentations to our planet, we are told. And among the very highest types of celestial authors of the text are the Solitary Messengers. One is the author of Papers 107–112, which describes the personality, the Indwelling Spirit, and the evolving soul—the inner trio that is the main focus of this book. An entire Paper is devoted to the work of these beings, who are of direct origin from the Infinite Spirit. They are described as the “personal corps” of the Third Person of the Trinity.

Roughly in the middle of the grand holarchy are celestial beings called Melchizedeks, who are known on high as the educators of the universes. They are the authors of many of the more philosophically advanced materials in the text, including Papers 100–103. These Papers offer the UB’s teaching on the psychology and philosophy of religion, providing essential background for the general discussions in Your Evolving Soul.

At the bottom of the angelology scale are the midwayers—known by that name because they exist in an invisible domain midway between humans and lower angels such as seraphim. Midwayers are able to connect directly with us physically because of their close energetic proximity to the material realms. Many miracles having to do with direct auditory communication, instantaneous physical healing, and changes in the location of physical objects are quietly carried out by our midwayers cousins. Because they can draw nearest to us, they were the invisible interlocutors of the human group in Chicago who first received the Urantia Papers between the years of 1924 and 1945. (See Section 4 for a sketch of the history of the revelatory process.) A special commission of midwayers who followed Jesus closely in his life were the authors of Part IV of the book, “The Life and Teachings of Jesus.”
