CHAPTER 7
HOW TO HATCH EGGS
During all this time we’ve been catching Pokémon, exploring the map, powering up and evolving our Pokémon, and battling at gyms, we should make use of all this exercise we’re getting by hatching eggs. Eggs are items you can collect from PokéStops or after leveling up. You can hatch Pokémon while walking, running, biking, or moving at a pace slower than riding in a car. Some eggs require a short amount to walk while others are longer. Hatching eggs gives us the chance to collect rare Pokémon.
To begin hatching an egg, select an egg from your Pokémon menu, press Start Incubation and choose an egg incubator. You’ll already have an incubator that can be used as many times as you’d like, but there are other incubators that can only be used a limited amount of times before they aren’t available for use anymore.
These additional incubators can be purchased or gained in the game. Once your egg is in an incubator, start moving, and you can track your progress for each egg from that same menu.
When your egg is ready to hatch and you have Pokémon GO open on your phone, you’ll receive a message, and then an animation of the egg hatching plays. This is the exciting part, where you find out if you’ve been granted a rare Pokémon! Or just a common one.
If you’re still out walking after your egg hatches, start the process again for another one.
Hatching eggs is a great way to collect new and potentially rarer Pokémon. Sadly, there is no way to ensure that that precious five-mile hike is going to result in one special Pokémon you’ve been craving. Generally, eggs with longer hatching time get you a rarer Pokémon, but this isn’t always the case.
YOU SHOULD KNOW:
Want to hatch eggs fast? Walk in a straight line! Nick Johnson, a Pokémon GO player from Brooklyn, New York, who allegedly became the first person to catch all available 142 monsters in the US, told Business Insider that a more effective way to hatch eggs is by walking in a straight line. So if you can walk on the sidewalk down a long street, that’d be better than just walking down a shorter street many times in a row.
