EPILOGUE TWO-PENELOPE

The timer went off, and I blurred across the kitchen to the ovens.

Shit. I really had to master that. I couldn’t just go around using my inner she-Devil’s speed all willy-nilly.

Anyone could walk in, I chastised myself.

The scents of cinnamon apple strudel with caramel glaze and cheesecake stuffed pumpkin muffins filled the store. Halloween was a week away, and the next rodeo was going to be here by then.

Courtesy of my big sexy, and rich, fiancé, I’d ordered new standing tables and a huge banner to sit outside the brand new Devil's Food Bakery food truck, which I planned on working that day.

He insisted it was an engagement present, and I was just tickled. Even Avery was excited about this new venture and promised to work the truck with me at the event.

Lenny, the other baker I had working for me, had been such a big help when I took the week off, I actually hired him full time. I was so busy still getting a handle on my new life, it just made sense.

Plus, I really loved having the extra time to do other things.

And no, I don’t mean Max. Get your mind out of the gutter!

Snort.

Fine, I did mean Max.

But also, not having to bake all the standard stuff allowed me time to explore my creative side with some new recipes and spice combinations.

Right now, I was testing out some savory items using Dolly’s Dairy Products, which was now the official name of all dairy that came from the Motley Crewd Ranch. Jed had been beside himself with gratitude.

And I thought I was an ugly crier.

Anyway, things were just fantastic.

Burt the Dirtbag was apparently on divorce number two, and his partners had actually kicked him out of their practice. And even though I didn’t wish anyone ill, I was too busy with my own life to be worrying about his anymore. That ship had sailed, and I was so much better off without it.

In fact, I was determined to keep living my best life now that I had found the love of mine.

“Hey Sugarplum,” Max’s deep voice cut through my thoughts.

He walked straight for me, not stopping until his mouth was on mine and his arms were holding me tight.

I sighed and opened my lips, welcoming him as I would every single time I saw him. This? This was heaven right here.

Being loved by this man, this Jersey Devil, was as close to perfection as I had ever come.

“Nah, you’re the perfect one, mate,” he said, and kissed me again.

But he was wrong.

The most perfect thing I’d ever found in this world was my cowboy Devil’s embrace.

And I planned on staying right there for a very long time.

“Right where you belong,” he said. And this time, I couldn’t have agreed more.

The end.
