Whiskey & Soda

“The Aunt and the Sluggard”, P. G. Wodehouse, 1916

2 parts whiskey

1 part club soda

Fill a Collins glass with ice.

Add the ingredients, gently stir until chilled, and enjoy.

I had a bit of dinner somewhere and went to a show of some kind; but nothing seemed to make any difference. I simply hadn’t the heart to go on to supper anywhere. I just sucked down a whisky-and-soda in the hotel smoking-room and went straight up to bed. I don’t know when I’ve felt so rotten.

Poor Bertie Wooster is left without the services of his trusty valet, Jeeves, for a brief time and can barely function (Jeeves is busy attending to one of Bertie’s friends). And so, he consoles himself with a Whiskey & Soda and goes to bed.

A Whiskey & Soda might be the magic bullet for a sulking upper-class twit, but it can be enjoyed by anyone. This simple cocktail, made with any whiskey you like and a good dash of soda, is as simple and satisfying as can be.
