William S. Burroughs
1 oz. vodka
4 oz. Coca-Cola
1 lemon or lime wedge, for garnish
Place the vodka and Coca-Cola in a highball glass, fill it with ice, and stir until chilled.
Garnish with lemon or lime wedge and enjoy.
Burroughs is best known for his surreal novel, The Naked Lunch, and he was a leading voice of the Beat Generation. As he grew older, he came to value a daily Vodka & Coke, and would mix one promptly at 6:00 pm each day. So fond of vodka was he that he even entertained the idea of Absolut Vodka producing an ad using some of his artwork, and calling it “Absolute Burroughs,” but it never came to be.
This simple blend of vodka and Coca-Cola is a variation on the Rum & Coke, and is easy to make. It requires nothing else but these two ingredients, poured over ice if you wish, though you could also add a lime wedge for color and garnish. Some recipes also call for the addition of bitters to make the flavor a bit more complex.
