BDSM Abbreviation for Bondage and Discipline, Sadism and Masochism. It’s sometimes argued that the middle letters also represent the words Domination and Submission. Regardless of what the abbreviation means, BDSM refers to relationships that depend on obvious demonstrations of power and authority.

Bondage The act of physically restricting a partner’s movement, either through ropes, cable ties, chains or some other form of restraint.

Dental dam A dental dam is a thin, square piece of latex or silicone placed over the labia during oral-vaginal sex.

Fan fiction Fiction that includes existing characters or settings from another author’s work. Note: be aware that the publication of fan fiction can incur copyright implications.

Flash fiction (sometimes called micro-fiction) Short stories with a very restricted length. Depending on the publisher, flash fiction limits can be anywhere between 50 and 300 words.

Masochism/masochist Refers to the act of deriving pleasure from suffering and those who gain their pleasure from receiving pain.

Sadism/sadist Refers to the act of deriving pleasure from inflicting suffering and pain on others and those who gain their pleasure from causing pain.

Straight Heterosexual.

Swinging/swapping Consensual sexual interplay between partners already in existing relationships.

Supernatural Fiction that involves elements such as vampires, ghosts, werewolves or any other paranormal phenomena.

Threesome/threeway Sexual relations between three people.

Vanilla Sexual pairings such as a man and a woman involved in the missionary position, usually derided for being unimaginative.
