It is difficult to evaluate the articles Zelda Fitzgerald wrote during the Twenties because they were mostly commissioned by slick magazines as celebrity pieces (wife of famous writer reveals unconventional thoughts)—indeed, two were companion pieces to articles by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Yet these personal essays do not seem as personal as her stories. The exceptions to this observation are the 1934 retrospective essays, “Show Mr. & Mrs. F. to Number——” and “Auction—Model 1934,” which develop intensely private material. Unlike other jointly bylined pieces, these two appear to have been actual collaborations; but it is impossible to differentiate the contributions of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
