My thanks and love are due to my third grandson, Fintan (Fin) Carroll, who sat with me on a sunny day in the garden and worked out the entire plot of The Moonlit Door (originally called Mr Grimm’s Men). His notes were with me throughout the entire writing process. Thanks, too, to grandsons one and two, Henry and Elliot, who cheerfully turn up and with one swift movement put right whatever is going wrong with my mad computer.
