1. It has been disputed whether Cicero is referring to a Stoic philosopher Aristo of Chios or to a Peripatetic of the same name from Ceos. Tithonus, son of the Trojan king Laomedon, was, through the favour of Eos (Dawn), granted by Jupiter eternal life, but not eternal youth: tired of senility, he was transformed into a grasshopper.
