No matter how many times I view one, a full moon over the ocean still fills me with awe and wonder. On those lucky nights when we happen to be at Ebbtide and one occurs, I typically herd everybody down the long boardwalk over the dunes so they can see the moon reflected in the water. A couple of years ago, when I was at Bald Head Island, North Carolina, researching my novel The Weekenders, my friend and I lucked into a full moon party. It later inspired a scene in the book, whose setting was in turn loosely inspired by Bald Head. For my own full moon celebration, I thought it was fitting to choose dishes that remind us of how blessed we are to live in such close proximity to the bountiful sea. You can prepare the tomatoes, mango salsa, green beans, beer bread, and even the ice cream sandwiches well ahead of time. After dinner is served, everybody can grab one of the ice cream sandwiches and an adult beverage before heading down to the beach for some moon dancing.
