Your Final

Now that you have worked through all the lessons and completed all the exercises, you are probably quite comfortable with basic squares and strips. Hopefully, you now understand how to break apart a pattern and find the units that make up the design. You can assign a size to the grid and figure out strip sets, and you can calculate yardage and generate a recipe for quilts that are made from just strips and squares. If you can do this, the book has achieved its purpose.

Below you will find a quilt that we have chosen as a final exam for this course. This quilt is based on a very old favorite, Burgoyne Surrounded, but we have simplified it by using only five pieced blocks, set together with large Nine-Patch blocks.

We have purposely not given any instructions for this quilt. We have provided a worksheet so that you can do your own calculations, choose your own grid, figure the yardage needed, and make a strip set recipe for yourself. The units are broken out to get you started. We hope that you will make this quilt to check your numbers and see how easy it is to plan quilts on your own.

Good luck!
