Chapter 15

Jonathan

Sweetheart, what’s taking you so long in the bathroom? You have been in there for 45 minutes as it is. Your skin should be rubbed off by now, darling,” I said peeking through the door.

Serenity sat at the lighted vanity, putting the finishing touches to her lips with the MAC lip gloss. The gloss left a shimmering shine to her already kissable lips. She turned to face me and graced me with one of her most beautiful smiles.

I’m sorry, honey, but I need to look just right for meeting Emma for the first time. You have already said how gorgeous she is, so I need to look halfway decent.”

That doesn’t take anything from your beauty, baby. You are the most beautiful to me, if that counts,” I said sincerely.

Thank you,” she said, standing to intertwine her arms around my neck. “I love you so much, Jon. Promise me that you will never forget that.”

I love you too, baby. How in the world could I ever forget something like that? I’m the luckiest man in the world. One day soon, I will make you my wife.”

My heart swelled from her declaration. I wanted to be her husband someday. She was the best thing that ever happened to me. I pulled her head towards mine and kissed her thoroughly. I realized that I had a good woman and I must hold on to her and treat her in the way she needed to be treated.

My dick sprung and pressed against her softness. “Every time I get near you, I desire you. Do you have any idea how desirable you are?” I questioned her.

You have the same effect on me. If we weren’t expecting anyone, I would show you right now,” she said.

Don’t temp me, baby. Because you already know that I can be tempted by you very easily,” I said, adjusting my erection in my pants.

My heart swelled and beat against my broad chest. I felt it thumping beneath, rapidly, as Serenity’s hands touched my chest. I caught her hand in mine and brought it against my lips.

If we don’t get out of here, I won’t be responsible for what I do. Meet me downstairs and I’ll leave you to finish getting dressed,” I said, walking reluctantly from the room.

I promise I’ll be down shortly,” she called out to my departing back.

Serenity

I hurriedly finished dressing and met Jonathan downstairs in record time, as promised. The smells coming from the kitchen were divine as I put the finishing touches to our meal. We usually ate out or ordered in on Saturday nights. But tonight, I decided that I wanted to cook myself since Jon’s brother and his girlfriend were coming over.

I could really throw down in the kitchen and he was already a big fan of my cooking. He absolutely loved my greens and fried chicken, but I decided there would be no greasy greens and fried chicken on tonight’s menu. Instead, I opted for a simple meal of chicken Milanese with a spring green salad on the side. The chicken had been coated with a breadcrumb mixture and lightly sautéed.

I even whipped up a cheesecake drizzled with a light strawberry syrup to serve for dessert. Jon had already set the table with plates and cutlery earlier to help me out. All there was left to do was to wait on Jason and Emma-Jay to arrive.

I came up behind Jon and hugged him from behind with one hand. I handed him a cold open bottle of beer with the other.

Thanks, baby,” he said before turning in my arms and placing a kiss onto my shiny, soft lips. “You taste like beer; did you drink one? I know that you don’t like the taste of beer,” he added.

You’re right, I usually don’t like the taste of beer, but I drunk one to cool me off in the hot kitchen,” I lied.

I didn’t tell him that I guzzled one down fast to give me courage to face Jason and his girlfriend. Or that right now, I was feeling a small buzz.

The doorbell chimed, cutting off all conversation between us, and he went to greet his brother and Emma-Jay. He opened the door while I hung back, hesitantly.

Come in you two, and make yourselves at home,” Jon said.

One look at Jason with his arm slung casually around Emma-Jay and I knew without a doubt that I needed more than one beer to get through this night. I seethed silently as Jon seated his brother and Emma on the sectional sofa.

Baby, come over here and let me introduce you to Jason’s friend,” he said, beckoning me forward. “Emma, this is my lovely lady, Serenity.”

Jason and Emma stood. Emma and I made pleasantries and shook hands cordially. Jason was unusually quiet as Jon made the introductions. I felt an uncomfortable vibe in the room, but immediately tried to push the feeling aside.

How are you doing, Serenity?” Jason finally decided to speak to me.

I turned and finally gave myself permission to look at Jason. I didn’t have a choice. It would look odd if I avoided him completely.

I’m good,” I said catching a whiff of his Dolce & Gabbana cologne.

I quickly walked over to my man and glued myself to his side. I reached up and placed a sweet kiss onto his lips.

You two are just too sweet,” Emma-Jay crooned with a bright smile. “Don’t you think so, Jason?”

Jason cleared his throat before speaking. “Of course, too sweet,” he replied. “I can see how much happiness she brings to my brother. The same way you bring happiness to me,” he added, a tad bit forcefully.

Emma looked from Jason to me. Her eyes narrowed to slits. She seemed to notice the look that Jason gave me every time he thought no one was looking. A pained expression tightened her features for a moment before her face relaxed all of a sudden.

Emma gave me a scathing look before plastering a fake smile on her face. I didn’t miss the look she gave me. I was too thick around the waist and I bristled under her demeaning glance. I was usually confident in my looks, but around Emma, I started to feel some kind of way. I would never allow her to know she got under my skin. ‘I don’t see what the brothers see in her anyway’ her look said. She was no top model and doubted that she could ever be.

I hope everyone brought their appetite because dinner is ready. My beautiful lady has outdone herself,” Jon said, leading everyone toward the dining room.

Emma-Jay’s sharp eyes missed nothing. She continued to watch me and Jason like a hawk.

Serenity, I will be happy to help you bring the food in,” she offered.

I knew she was faking being friendly. But two can play at that game, I thought to myself. I gave her the same scathing glance that she had given me. Emma’s short multi-colored tube dress hugged her pert rear end like a glove. It showed off her tanned legs and thighs to perfection, and she knew it. But her beautiful outer appearance hid something shady and mean. I was sure of it.

No, that’s okay. You just have a seat with the brothers and I will bring everything in shortly,” I politely declined. My fake smile grew even wider.

I insist. What type of guest would I be if I didn’t at least offer my help?” she said with a tight smile to her lips that never reached her cold blue eyes.

That’s right. You are a guest and I wouldn’t think of you helping,” I said in my friendliest voice. I also didn’t want to be in close confines with her in the kitchen. I wasn’t feeling her brand of snobbishness and I doubted I ever would.

Jason quickly pulled out a seat for Emma to be seated. “Sit here, darling, and I will help Serenity bring in the food. Jon will keep you company.”

Great idea,” Jonathan readily agreed. He quickly took over the responsibility of being a great host, as he entertained Emma-Jay at the elegantly set dining room table.

I hurried into the kitchen not even waiting to see if Jason followed. The moment was awkward at best and I couldn’t wait for the meal to be over with. I gathered my oven mittens and took out the chicken dish that was in the oven.

Jason peered over my right shoulder. He was much too close as I inhaled his cologne. “Will you please get the salad out of the refrigerator?” I suggested.

What do you think of Emma?” he asked, retrieving the salad and putting it onto a nearby counter.

The chicken dish almost slipped from my hands because I was caught off-guard by his question. I carefully set the dish on top of the oven before answering. “She is beautiful,” I said, avoiding his eyes.

I know that she is beautiful, but what do you think of her?”

It’s too soon for me to tell,” I said, turning and finally looking at him. “She seems nice enough, I suppose,” I admitted, grudgingly. I didn’t have the heart to tell him what I really thought of her.

The truth of the matter was, I disliked her on sight. I tried hard to hide my jealousy from Jason. He came and stood in front of me much too close. He searched my eyes before sliding a stray piece of my curly hair behind my ear. I shuddered from head to toe as his fingers brushed lightly against the side of my face.

I attempted to stand back but the oven was behind me. He was like a piece of tasty forbidden fruit standing before me. His smell was overwhelming as it tempted my nostrils to breathe more of him in. He was growing his dreads again and I was tempted to take one loose lock into my hands to feel its texture.

His eyes suddenly glazed over as he saw the look that I’d tried desperately to hide. He took a step closer and my hand went up to his chest to halt him. I could feel his heart beating rapidly beneath my fingertips.

I licked my lips nervously and his eyes quickly followed my movement.

Oh shit! This couldn’t be happening in this kitchen in my boyfriend’s house, I thought silently to myself. What am I getting myself into? All of these thoughts were plummeting through my head.

Fuck!” I didn’t realize that I had said this aloud until he pulled me closer.

Is that what you want me to do to you, Serenity? Do you want me to fuck the shit out of you again?” he asked in a low, husky voice as an uncontrollable desire entered his brown eyes. “Just say the word, baby, and I’m all in. You won’t have to ask me twice.”

I couldn’t breathe as I returned his heated forbidden stare. There was an intangible force emitting between the two of us. The force of something, I dare not put a name to, held us in our too close proximity of one another longer than we had a right to. Finally, Jason inhaled with his nostrils flared. He shook his head as if to clear his vision and stepped back.

I finally started to breathe again. I watched him pick up the chicken dish with a mitten and grab the wine bucket with the other hand before winking at me. He left me alone and breathless in the kitchen, panting like an animal in heat and wanting more of something, I wouldn’t dare admit.

What just happened here?” I questioned myself aloud in the empty kitchen.

I sighed aloud and grabbed the salad bowl off the counter. I took a deep breath into my lungs before following Jason into the dining room.
