Prologue

Dear Lilly,

You’re young… too young. You can’t imagine anything worse than the repercussions of being out of bed earlier than allowed. A plane flies into a building, the glass shatters, a pillar of strength crumbles to the ground as a car races away. You’re alone now, left to pick up the pieces of a broken life, but what happens when you don’t? Twenty years later, what remains? Anxiety, fear and self-doubt control your life, squandering any potential that ever threatened to shine through. You are the bird that burned alive over and over and over again while all the other phoenixes rose from the ashes. This is your life, are you going to fight for it?
