"Death Is Swallowed Up in Victory"
1 Corinthians 15:42-54; All men shall gain physical perfection in the resurrection; that is, being raised from mortality to immortality, from corruption to incorruption, they shall shuffle off all disease, deformities, bodily disorders, and physical imperfections of every nature, and shall stand thenceforth without physical impairments or deficiencies of any sort. There will be no eyes that do not see, no ears without hearing, no crippled arms or legs, no club feet, no ulcers, no physical pain, no diseases, no corruption, no death. As Alma said: "The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame." (Alma 40:23.)
1 Corinthians 15:42; 42. Corruption] Mortality. Status of mortal bodies, subject as they are to physical change and decay.
1 Corinthians 15:42; Incorruption] Immortality. Status of physical perfection enjoyed by immortal beings, a status without death. As Amulek said: "This mortal body is raised to an immortal body, that is from death, even from the first death unto life, that they can die no more; their spirits uniting with their bodies, never to be divided; thus the whole becoming spiritual and immortal, that they can no more see corruption." (Alma 11:45.)
1 Corinthians 15:44; 44. Natural body] Mortal, temporal, or corruptible body, a body of flesh and blood, one in which body and spirit are temporarily connected, one subject to pain, disease, and death.
1 Corinthians 15:44; Spiritual body] Not a spirit body, but an immortal, resurrected, or incorruptible body, a body of flesh and bones, one in which body and spirit are inseparably connected, one not subject to physical pain, disease, or death.
1 Corinthians 15:45; 45. A living soul] A mortal soul or person, consisting of a mortal tabernacle temporarily housing an eternal spirit. Thus, "the resurrection from the dead is the redemption of the soul." (D&C 88:16.)
1 Corinthians 15:45; A quickening spirit] An immortal soul or person, consisting of a resurrected body housing an eternal spirit everlastingly. It is Christ, as a quickening spirit, who "quickeneth all things," thus bringing to pass "the redemption of the soul." (D&C 88:17.)
1 Corinthians 15:49; 49. Image of the earthy] Image of Adam or mortality, which is the natural inheritance of all men from Adam.
1 Corinthians 15:49; Image of the heavenly] Image of Christ or immortality, which is the natural inheritance of all men from Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:50; 50. Flesh and blood] Mortality, as distinguished from flesh and bones which is descriptive of immortality. The life of the mortal body is in the blood. (Leviticus 17:11.)
1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 51-52. "And he that liveth when the Lord shall come, and hath kept the faith, blessed is he; nevertheless, it is appointed to him to die at the age of man. Wherefore, children shall grow up until they become old; old men shall die; but they shall not sleep in the dust, but they shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye." (D&C 63:50-51.)
1 Corinthians 15:53; 53. "This mortal shall put on immortality, and this corruption shall put on incorruption." (Mosiah 16:10.)
1 Corinthians 15:54; 54. Death is swallowed up in victory] To man, nothing is so absolute and final as death; death conquers all; rich and poor, wise and foolish, righteous and wicked, the mighty and the weakâall bow to death, all leave their bodies to rot in the earth. But, praise God!, there is One, even Christ, who, ministering in all the glory of his Father's power, hath gained the victory over the grave, and because of him all men shall live again.
