CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

TALLYHO

Jovan’s StarForger continued to circle over the hover-bikes as the coordinates for thirty-six missiles began popping up all over the fighter’s radar. The missiles were moving in dual clusters of eighteen, heading towards the north and the east.

“Jovan, are you getting this?” Marius asked.

“I am. Eighteen missiles. Piece of cake.”

“All right then. We need you to knock ‘em out the sky. Whatever it takes. That goes for you too, Dee-Dee.”

“Affirmative.”

He took a deep breath and gripped the reins. This was a moment Jovan had always dreamed about. With everything falling apart at the seams, it would be up to him to show and prove.

“It’s like the good ole days back on Aphotriton, eh Dee-Dee?”

“If you say so.”

“I’ll see you on the other side.”

Dee-Dee’s StarForger blasted away, headed east, leaving Jovan to handle the missiles traveling to the north. While the shorter distance wasn’t providing him with much wiggle room, it would allow him to conserve some of the fighter’s auxiliary power. Those high-impact maneuvers could be hell on the human body.

Everyone’s depending on you pal. Don’t let ‘em down.

He pulled back on the reins, angling the fighter towards the heavens. The residue from the missiles had long since faded, revealing the beautiful night sky. He activated the StarForger’s auxiliary rockets as the fighter blasted higher.
