CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE

CRUNCH TIME

“Doctor Marius, come in. Doctor Marius, do you copy?”

Marius snatched his telecommunicator off the console and activated it.

“I’m here, Orion. Where the devil are you guys?”

“We’re in the tunnels. We’re headed back your way. And we’ve got Kabibi’s family. They’re okay.”

Marius turned to Kabibi. He was obviously relieved.

“Well done cadet. We’re waiting for you.”

“Copy that.”

He clicked off the telecommunicator and re-attached it to his wrist.

“How will I ever be able to repay you?” Kabibi asked.

“I’m sure we’ll figure something out. In the meantime, what’s going on with these missiles?”

Kabibi turned back to the console and checked the radar. They watched as six more missiles disappeared.

“Yes. Another six missiles. How many do we have left?” Marius said.

“There are still six remaining.”

“They’re gonna make it, aren’t they?” Gordie remarked.

“One can only hope.”

Marius exchanged a look with Kabibi. There was a deep fear within his eyes.

“Where are those missiles headed?”

The Fonantian didn’t answer him.

“Kabibi. Where are those missiles headed?”

“Fonantis.” He said, somber in tone. “My home.”

Marius sighed. It was crunch time and they were totally in the dark as to whether or not they were going to end up victorious on this day. At this point, he and the others were passive observers. It was all on Jovan and Dee-Dee now.
