Tell your daughter you’re on a quest to find three things: something fun, something pretty, and something sweet.
Hop in the car and begin making your way to the nearest toy store. Use your drive time to talk about how much fun your daughter is. Reminisce about the goofy, silly memories you have of times together. Tell her about moments from her younger days that still bring a smile when you think about them.
When you arrive at the toy store, it’s time to look for something fun! Set a spending limit and let your daughter search through the store for an inexpensive game or toy.
Hit the road again and head for a drugstore or “girly” store like Claire’s or Justice. (From my own personal research, no father has yet died from overexposure to feminine retail outlets!) Use your time in the car to talk about how beautiful your daughter is. Ask her what she likes best about herself, and talk about how beauty counts just as much on the inside. Share with your daughter what you find beautiful about her mother too. Once you reach the drugstore, let your daughter choose something that makes her feel pretty—some hair clips, nail polish, lip gloss, or inexpensive jewelry.
Finally, begin making your way to a favorite restaurant for a special dessert. As you drive, talk about how sweet your daughter is to you. Point out some of her recent sweet comments, thoughtful moments, and the ways she has been kind to her family, friends, or even strangers. At the restaurant enjoy your “sweets” and talk about the following ideas together.

Was it fun finding something fun, something pretty, and something sweet? Hopefully it’s clear by this point in your date that your daughter is all of those things to you.
Read Psalm 127:3–5 together:
Children are an inheritance from the LORD.
They are a reward from him.
The children born to a man when he is young are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.
Blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them. (GW)
Your daughter is God’s gift and reward to you! God calls her your inheritance and blessing. Could anything be better?
Thank you for the gift of my daughter. I love her fun personality, her beauty inside and out, and her sweetness to me and our family. Thank you for this time to enjoy with her. She is the most amazing blessing I could ever imagine. Amen!
