Have a swimmingly great time at the pool! Throw dive rings for your daughter to find and tow her around the deep end with a foam noodle. Be a “shark” and chase your “minnow” in a game of tag. If your daughter is a beginning swimmer, praise her for every effort to put her face in the water or jump to you from the side of the pool. If she’s more experienced in the water, have swimming races or play Marco Polo. See who can hold their breath underwater for the longest time, or who can float on their back or tread water the longest.
When swimming time is over, dry off and grab a snack together.
Take this challenge together: count how many Bible stories you can think of that involve water! Many of these stories, such as Noah and the great flood, Jonah and the whale, and Peter walking on the water to Jesus, show the incredible power of God.
Ephesians 1:19 tells us that not only is God’s power incredible, he shares it with us! It is his “incomparably great power for us who believe.” How do you need God’s power today? For healing? For strength in a hard situation? For the courage to share his gospel with others? Be encouraged. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Tim. 1:7 ESV).
God’s love is great—he didn’t leave us alone in the world to fend for ourselves. He cares about every struggle we’ll ever face. He shares his mighty power with us to get us through anything. “You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!” (Ps. 68:35).
Dear God,
Your power is too great to understand! With your power you created the universe and raised your Son Jesus from the dead. Such incredible power is surely enough to handle our problems today. Please help us with our challenges. We have hard work to do. People can be difficult to get along with or forgive. We don’t always have what we need. Show us your power in every situation. Teach us to trust you and depend on your strength. You are awesome! Amen.
