Who knew an ordinary sidewalk could be so much fun on a sunny day? Fill the bucket with water and use a paintbrush to “paint” on the dry pavement of your sidewalk or driveway. How long do the pictures last before they dry up and fade away? Can you paint the whole alphabet before the “A” disappears?
Have your daughter lie down on the sidewalk and trace her outline with sidewalk chalk. Use different colors of chalk to fill in the details of her face, hair, and clothes.
Use the chalk to draw hopscotch and four-square games on the sidewalk. Get out the jump rope and compete to see how many hops you can each take before you lose your step. Time your daughter to see how long she can spin a hula hoop before it falls to the ground. Maybe she’ll set a personal record today!
If it’s a hot day, cool down by washing the chalk off the sidewalk (and each other) with the garden hose. Enjoy a cold drink of lemonade or a popsicle and have fun talking together.

Was it a great day for fun in the sun? A bright, sunshiny day can remind us of Jesus, the Light of the World. John 8:12 says,
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Just like we expect the sun to come up every morning, we know God is faithful to be there for us every day. Just like the sun gives us light and warmth to survive, God gives us what we need to live forever. Nothing sinful can hide in the light, and God is truth and goodness all the time. Whenever you have fun in the sunshine, remember the Light and praise him!
Dear Father,
Thank you for this beautiful day to enjoy the sunshine you made. It’s so much fun to play with my daughter! Thank you for being our light. You have saved us from a life of darkness without you. We love you so much! Amen.
