Take your daughter to a local paint or home improvement store. Have fun choosing a paint color that makes your daughter say “Wow!” Select a durable, washable paint that can stand up to childhood. While you’re there, pick up any other painting supplies you’ll need to do the job.
Once you’re home, move as many pieces of furniture and other belongings as necessary to make room for your painting project. Change into clothing that can get splattered! Work with your daughter to spread the drop cloth and apply tape around windows and woodwork to protect from drips. Grab brushes and begin painting around the edges of the ceiling, baseboards, doorways, etc. Have a damp cloth handy to wipe up any “oops” that happen.
Once the edges are painted, have your daughter use a brush or roller to paint the walls. Don’t worry about perfection; extra coats of paint can cover most flaws. Let her have fun doing as much as she’d like. Enjoy her pride and satisfaction in transforming her room!

Even though it’s still your daughter’s same space in the same house, it’s amazing how a fresh coat of paint can make a room feel brand new. Ask your daughter the following questions:
How does the color you chose make you feel? Is it relaxing? Exciting? Cozy?
What does the color remind you of? A certain flower? A favorite shirt? A place you’ve visited?
With a new color, does your room feel more unique? Do you think the color shows your personality? How?
Read the following verse together:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Cor. 5:17 ESV)
The same thing happens with us when we give our lives to Christ. We have the same physical body we always had, but God makes our thoughts, feelings, and attitudes brand-new. Old fears, bad habits, and a hopeless future are transformed as we’re made more like Christ and have the hope of heaven. Ask each other how you have been “made new” since you found Jesus. How have your thoughts, attitudes, and actions changed as his children?
Dear God,
Thank you for making us your new creations! We know that we were lost before you found us and gave us hope. Please keep working in us—we want to look more and more like Jesus. Amen!
