Christmas is a beautiful holiday—but it can be hectic. Enjoy this break in the activity to simply focus on your daughter. Grab your Christmas CDs and some candy canes, then hop in the car and begin your quest: to find the best holiday lights display in town!

Drive from neighborhood to neighborhood. Pull over to view the brightest, most colorful holiday light displays you see. Give the displays a grade, and note the locations of the A+ displays in your notebook in case you want to drive by and enjoy them another time.

When your tour of lights is over, stop for a hot cup of cocoa at a coffee shop.

Share with your daughter about the best Christmas you ever had as a child. What was your most exciting gift? What traditions did your family keep from year to year? Which ones meant the most to you? Ask your daughter these questions:

What is your all-time favorite Christmas carol?

What is your favorite Christmas tradition? Is it the tree? Visits from relatives? The stockings? A special treat your family always has? Christmas music on the radio? The special candlelight service at church?

What is the number-one gift on your wish list? Why?

At Christmastime we remember the most incredible gift ever: God sent his Son Jesus into the world as a baby so we could receive his gift of salvation. Read the following verses together:

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. (Eph. 2:6–8)

We are so blessed to have an entire holiday season devoted to praising God for his gift to us. Take some time to pray and thank him right now!

Dear Lord,

Thank you for the Christmas season, when we celebrate how Jesus came into the world to save us. You have given us the most amazing gift we could ever imagine, and we’ll be praising you for our salvation forever! Please show us how we can share the gift of your love with others. We need your wisdom to know how to best serve others and share what we have. Thank you again for Christmas. Amen!
