Brainstorm about what you’d like to make with your duct tape. A limitless number of ideas can be found online (try www.duckbrand.com or www.thriftyfun.com) including wallets, video game covers, bracelets, animals, flowers, costumes, and so on. A favorite at our house is covering empty tissue boxes with duct tape. These boxes can hold all of your daughter’s little notes, toys, or stickers that she enjoys collecting. You can also use various colors of tape to cover or embellish an old backpack or purse.

Duct tape has been used for a countless number of purposes, from repairing the Apollo 13 lunar module and saving the astronauts’ lives to fixing helicopter rotors in the Vietnam War. It can be used to cure warts, make prom dresses, and fix your car. It’s cool how something so fun to play with can be useful too.

Just like duct tape can come in handy as a fix-it in so many situations, the Word of God is a blessing to us in everything that ever happens in our lives. Are you confused and don’t know what to do?

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16–17)

Are you feeling worried or afraid?

You are my refuge and my shield;

I have put my hope in your word. (Ps. 119:114)

Do you have a reason to celebrate and praise God?

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Col. 3:16)

Whether you’re sad, angry, worried, or happy, the Bible is filled with words of hope and praise. Pray these verses from Psalm 119 together to thank God for his gift of the Scriptures:

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,

who walk according to the law of the LORD.

Blessed are they who keep his statutes

and seek him with all their heart—

they do no wrong

but follow his ways. (vv. 1–3)

I seek you with all my heart;

do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

Praise be to you, O LORD;

teach me your decrees.

With my lips I recount

all the laws that come from your mouth.

I rejoice in following your statutes

as one rejoices in great riches.

I meditate on your precepts

and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees;

I will not neglect your word. (vv. 10–16)

Your word, LORD, is eternal;

it stands firm in the heavens.

Your faithfulness continues through all generations;

you established the earth, and it endures.

Your laws endure to this day,

for all things serve you. (vv. 89–91)

How sweet are your words to my taste,

sweeter than honey to my mouth!

I gain understanding from your precepts;

therefore I hate every wrong path.

Your word is a lamp for my feet,

a light on my path. (vv. 103–5)

Amen!
