Pre-purchase tickets for a production of the Nutcracker ballet. To build anticipation for the ballet performance, listen to the music of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite before you go. Find a picture book of the Nutcracker to read together so your daughter is familiar with the storyline.
On the evening of the performance, admire your daughter all dressed up! Make your way to the theater and read the program together while you’re waiting for the curtain to rise.

It’s always a thrill to watch good triumph over evil. Great stories have the hero coming out on top. In fairy tales, the big bad wolf always loses and the special girl always wins the prince’s heart. In the Nutcracker, it’s exciting to see the defeat of the mouse king! Thankfully this doesn’t just happen in stories: God gives us victory in our battle with sin and temptation every day!
Ask each other these questions:
Can you name three temptations that you “battle” every day?
What helps you to stand strong and do the right thing?
What mistakes do we make that allow temptation to win the fight?
The Bible gives us encouragement when we struggle to do what is right:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Cor. 10:13)
He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Cor. 1:8–9)
Dear Lord,
Thank you for being our hero. You set us free from the power of sin! Thank you that you are ready to help us stand strong against any temptation that comes our way. Thank you for your promise to always give us a way to escape. Give us hearts that want to please you by living for you in every way. When we do give in to temptation, help us to run to you for forgiveness and a fresh start. We love you! Amen.
