Every girl appreciates a good love story. Today you can share with your daughter how you met her mom and became a family. Describe where you were when you met, what you did on your first date, when you knew she was “the one,” and how you proposed. Share with her about how you chose the engagement ring and if you had to ask for Grandpa’s permission to marry his daughter. Flip through your wedding photo album together and watch your wedding video.
Take your daughter to the store so she can help choose a fresh bouquet of flowers for Mom. Tell her that just like her mom carried flowers on her wedding day, she deserves to have flowers right now because you still love her!
God created the idea of marriage and family. He says that a husband and wife are a living, walking picture of how the church honors God and how Jesus loves the church: completely and forever!
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Eph. 5:25–28)
Love isn’t just a warm fuzzy feeling. First Corinthians 13:4–8 tells us what true love looks like:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
It’s an amazing gift to be loved like this!
Dear Father,
Thank you for loving us so perfectly. Please teach us to love like you do. Thank you for giving me a wife that blesses me so much. Thank you for making us a family and giving us a beautiful daughter to share our love. Keep us close to you and close to each other. Amen!
