Check out websites such as www.ticketmaster.com to see the theater offerings within driving distance of your home. If traveling to a larger metropolitan area for the production, make hotel reservations for after the show.
Arrive early enough at the theater to enjoy the displays in the lobby, purchase a special program or souvenir, use the restroom, and find your seats. Read through the program with your daughter to discover the names of that night’s cast members and a little of the show’s history.
Grow
Your daughter is probably an experienced actress in her own right, as she has used her imagination in her play for years. Many girls go through a fun stage of playing dress-up and pretending to be a variety of different grown-ups and animals. She has probably played the roles of puppy, mommy, big sister, veterinarian, and teacher with her dolls and friends. This kind of play is wonderful as she dreams about who she will be someday.
Ask your daughter these questions:
What might you want to be when you grow up?
What would be fun about that job?
Where would you like to visit and explore when you grow up?
What hobbies do you think you might have?
What kind of home do you imagine living in?
No matter what career, hobby, or home she ends up experiencing, your daughter will always be God’s child. She can put her identity in who she is in Christ. The work we do and the things we achieve will pass away—it is our life in the Lord that lasts forever!
Read these verses together:
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Cor. 5:17 ESV)
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph. 2:10)
God has called your daughter his child, has made her a new creation, and has good works planned for her to do. She has an amazing future ahead of her as his daughter!
Thank you for giving my daughter a hope and a future. You have given her wonderful gifts and talents, and such a loving heart. Please protect her from sin and those who would try to draw her away from you. Grow her faith and trust in you. Give her a heart that wants to please you more than anybody else. Keep her close to you all the days of her life. We love you! Amen.
